Foods and its effects on neurotransmitters for the intolerant and sensitives.
Many complain of "panick attacks." Other than the usual fight or flight regardless of stimulus, often, those symptoms are triggered by sudden release of catecholamines. It can be caused by medications, or other such as thyroid dysfunction, physiological stresses and less often, psychological.
Foods such as bananas, wine, cheese, walnuts, avocados, and in particular chicken skin, high in amines, can trigger a sudden release of catecholamines. Vanilla, Aspirin are known to be triggers. Chocolate - yummy, good for serotonin and endorphins. Increases tryptophan, precursor amino acid to serotonin, BUT, contains caffeine & theobromine, affects CNS too.
Quite a balancing act, concerning calming foods.
